Bodies moved from funeral director by police in Hull after concerns raised

Police have removed a number of bodies from a funeral director in northern England after concerns were raised about "storage and management processes relating to care of the deceased".

Three branches of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors were raided across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire after the concerns were reported on Wednesday.

Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin of Humberside Police said officers were moving bodies from the company's branch on Hessle Road in Hull to the local authority's mortuary.

Police remain at the business's three branches - two in Hull and one in Beverley.

ACC McLoughlin said detectives had been working with local authorities and the coroner to "fully understand the circumstances and concerns expressed in the report made to us".

"We have already received a number of calls from concerned members of the public and I want to offer my personal reassurance that we are working as hard as possible to make direct contact with each and every family that may have been affected by the concerns reported," he added.

He said the investigation was "very complex, with heartbroken and devastated families at the core of it", adding: "We are determined to make sure that we keep the families involved at the heart of everything we are doing."

Police have asked those who have concerns to get in touch.

Legacy Independent Funeral Directors is a family-run business established in 2010, according to its website. It has yet to comment publicly.
