Gulmarg Development Authority celebrates International Women's Day - Greater Kashmir

Gulmarg Mar 09: Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services & Sports Zone Kunzer/Tangmarg and local civil/police administration Saturday celebrated International Women’s Day with great fervor and enthusiasm at Tangmarg.

The event witnessed a series of engaging activities aimed at celebrating womenhood and empowering women.

   

The day commenced with a trekking expedition of girls from the town hall to Drang, flagged off by the Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg. Subsequently, a Capacity Building session was conducted for women at the town hall in Tangmarg with a discourse on empowerment of women in various spheres.

Highlight of the program was the first of its kind Girls’ Snow Cricket Match played at Tangmarg between Zone Tangmarg and Zone Kunzer, with Kunzer emerging victorious. Mementoes were distributed among the participants to commemorate their participation and achievements. The girls participating in the snow cricket match were jubilant and expressed their gratitude towards authorities for organizing the match and providing them the first ever opportunity to play snow cricket in the picturesque playground.The CEO GDA said that tourism and sports activities are not only sources of recreation but also means of empowerment. He highlighted the “Women friendly tourism initiatives’ being taken by the GDA which includes capacity building of local women towards tourism services like tourist guides, ski guides,etc to cater to the requirements of female travellers.

The event was graced by various officers including the Executive Officer of Tangmarg Municipality, Tehsildar Tangmarg, Tehsildar Kunzar,Padma Shri Awardee Faisal Ali Dar, CDPO Tangmarg,SHO Tangmarg, DO Babarashi Police , and other officials of youth services are sports and other departments. Waseem Raja, CEO of Gulmarg, expressed his appreciation to all participants and extended gratitude to the Department of Youth Services & Sports, revenue,ICDS, police and others for their pivotal role in the success of the program.He highlighted the constructive role played by local media towards promotion of such events.

The celebration of International Women’s Day in Tangmarg exemplifies the collective commitment towards gender equality and the empowerment of women in society.
