Former Promoter Expects Usyk's 'Kryptonite' To Defeat Fury

Mick Hennessy, the former promoter of WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KOs), has backed Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) to defeat his former fighter when the pair come face to face May 18.

On talkSPORT’s “Fight Night,” Hennessey – who has previously promoted Carl Froch, Kid Galahad, Lenny Daws and Chris Eubank Jr. – gave his prediction.

Fury was promoted and managed by Hennessy at the outset of his professional career, starting in 2008, with Fury claiming English, British, Commonwealth, European and world title successes. The pair’s finest hour came in November 2015 when Fury traveled to Düsseldorf, Germany, and defeated the long-reigning lineal heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

“Oleksandr Usyk,” Hennessy said. “I think, for a lot of the big heavyweights, I think a lot of the time their kryptonite is lateral movement.

“There are very quick cruiserweights who have come up to heavyweight and have that athleticism. [Usyk] has all of that and is also a southpaw.

“He is a real chess player, ain’t he? So I think Usyk.”
