Mikel Arteta has revealed how many points he feels will be necessary to win the 2023/24 Premier League.

Arteta's Arsenal side are in the midst of an enthralling three-horse title race with Manchester City and Liverpool this season. The Gunners have managed to keep pace with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp's sides and sit in third place as things stand.

Having watched both secure late wins against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest respectively this weekend though, Arsenal know they cannot afford to cede any unnecessary ground to if they want to win this season's Premier League title. Arteta has admitted they may in fact need to win every game between now and the end of the season in order to bring the trophy back to north London for the first time 20 years.

"You always ask me this question and I never get it right," he joked when asked how many points would be required to win the league prior to Monday night's clash with Sheffield United. "The demands, you might have to win every game. I don’t know. I have no clue. There are a lot of games and we are all going to have crazy schedules and this league might be different to last season. Anything under 90 points I think would be very difficult."

Arsenal currently sit on 58 points, while Manchester City are in second on 62, and Liverpool lead the way on 63. With 12 games of the Premier League season remaining for the Gunners, the maximum tally they will be able to record this season is 94.

This would appear to suggest that Arteta thinks his side can afford a maximum of two slips ups between now and the final day of the season on May 19th. Arsenal face difficult trips to Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham between now and then, and also host Champions League chasing Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium.

It's certainly not going to be an easy take for Arteta's men. Arsenal will be buoyed by the fact that City and Liverpool play each other next week though. Equally no team have a better goal difference than the Gunners who will be confident of boosting their +39 tally on Monday night when they travel to a Sheffield United side who have conceded five in their last three games at Bramall Lane.
